Tires: 2009 F250, continental contitrac tr, ford dealer

Question
I recently had my truck in for it's first service and the technician noticed a crack in the sidewall of the tire, about a 1/2 inch from the rim about 6" long. Looks more like a knife cut than a split.  The dealer agreed that the tire should be replaced but my confidence in these tires as you can appreciate is not very high.  Would it be to much to expect Ford to replace the complete set of tires? The tires are: Continental Contitrac TR M+S Lt275/70R18. Mileage is 6000 Thank you for your advice in advance.  Kim

Answer
Kim,

I'm familiar with these types of cracks and they really aren't a problem.

But it is understandable that you would be concerned.  The question is will the Ford dealer bend a bit to help the situation.  Maybe, but you'll have to ask the dealer.

But you should be aware that it is the tire manufacturer that warrants the tires - and while they will likely warrant the single tire, they may balk at doing all of them.  I suggest you do this through the Ford dealer, and get them to help with the concession.
