Tires: tire size, 9 rims, rim widths

Question
Are 265/70-15 tires the same as 31x10.5r15 tires? Would the 31's fit on my stock rims if the current tires are 265/70-15? Thanks.

Answer
Tanner,

No.

First, P265/70R15's are about 29.1" in diameter, 10.7" wide (on an 8" rim), and fit on 7" to 9" rims.  They have a maximum load carrying capacity of 2337# at 35 psi - and if used on a light truck (which would be that most valid comparison), the load carrying capacity is reduced to 2124# at 35 psi.

31 X10.50 R 15LT's are about 30.5" in diameter, 10.5" wide (on a 8 1/2" rim), and fit on 8" to 10" rims.  They have a maximum Load carrying capacity of 1765 # at 35 psi (Load Range B)

So, NO!, the tires are not interchangeable, plus, I do not see where any vehicle ever came with P265/70R15's so I can't tell you what the stock rim widths are - and needless to say, there are some combinations where this would not work.
