Tires: tire pressure, tire placard, buick regal

Question
I have a '96 Regal GS with 3.8 V6 and just put on Goodyear P225/60R16 T rated tires. What is the recommended cold pressure?

Answer
Jimmy,

On every vehicle sold in the US, there is a sticker – commonly called the tire placard - that lists the original tire size and the proper pressure for that size.  The placard is usually located on a doorpost or in the glove box – but sometimes it is located in the trunk or on the fuel filler door.

BTW, it doesn't matter who makes the tire or what pressure is listed on the tire's sidewall, if the tire size is the same as the placard, then the pressure listed on placard is also appropriate.

According to Tire Guides, a 1996 Buick Regal originally came with P205/70R15's inflated to 30 psi.  Please check your vehicle placard to make sure this is correct, because what I am about to write is dependent on that onformation.

In order to carry the same load as a P205/70R15 does at 30 psi a P225/60R16 needs to use 28 psi.
