Tires: Tires for 1978 Ford F-250, tire placard, ford f 250

Question
The tires that are on 1978 Ford F-25 are 750-16LT. The tire dealer said the only tires he has that size are trailer tires. Was this size a common size for this truck at one time and is there a newer tire size that would be compatible with this size. Thanks

Answer
Robert,

Yes.  7.50-16's were very common in that time period - but that was towards the end of the bias tire era.

But to make sure we do this right, we need to do a little research.

On every vehicle sold in the US, there is a sticker – commonly called the tire placard - that lists the original tire size and the proper pressure for that size.  The placard is usually located on a doorpost or in the glove box – but sometimes it is located in the trunk or on the fuel filler door.

So what does the tire placard say on your vehicle?  (I'm betting you'll be surprised what the original tire size and pressure was.)
