Tires: poor traction in wet conditions, poor traction, wet traction

Question
I have a 2005 Mazda Tribute 2wheeldrive front wheel drive. In wet conditions, when accelerate from stop light or stop sign I start to spin. I don't consider myself as having a heavy foot. I had Continental tire on it when vehicle was new, Mazda replaced them with another set of Continental tires, the problem persisted. I was told by a tire dealer that the vehicle had to much power for front wheel drive. I have trouble believing that. I have since put a set of Hankook Dynapro AS, still having the problem. Can you give any suggestions? thank You, Doug

Answer
Doug,

All I can suggest is a different brand of tire.

OE tires tend to be designed with rolling resistance in mind and sometimes that means wear and / or  traction, especially wet traction, is sacrificed.  Traction issues are generally isolated geographically, and they don't show up everywhere.

So I think replacing the tires with something else is - at the very least - worth a try.
