Tires: Replacing BMW Tires 220/55, tire guides, interchangeability

Hi, I have an 1985, 735i BMW which has 220/55 tires on them.
Any idea if I could change our my rims using an E34's, 205/65 tire?

You have the dreaded TRX problem.

According to Tire Guides, other 735i's came with 205/70R14's, so it seems reasonable that 205/65R15's ought to wrok.

But I just don't have charts about rims and their interchangeability, but i have been able to confirm that the bolt patterns are the same.  

Perhaps the folks at some of the BMW specific web sites will be able to answer that question.
