Tires: changing tire sizes, volvo s60, 2004 volvo s60

Question
QUESTION: Hello, I read a response about changing from a p225/50 r 16 to a 205/55 r 16. you didn't recommend. what about the reverse? a friend says it is ok and wants to sell me the p225's for my 2004 volvo s60 2.5t awd. if it will work on the rims, what are the drawbacks?
thanks for the time.

ANSWER: Kevin,

According to Tire Guides, a 2004 Volvo S60 2.5t AWD originally came with 205/55R16's.  please check your placard to make sure this is right.  The placard is usually located on a doorpost or in the glove box.

QUESTION: yes that is correct. i was wondering if going to p225/50 r 16 is ok and if so what are the drawbacks if any?

Answer
Kevin,

I'm sorry but I misread your question and thought you were going from 225/50R16 to 205/55R16 - which, of course, is going back to the OE configuration.

But I can't tell you you if there is enough room in the fenderwells for the wider tire - no one publishes a chart with that information.

But I can tell you that the change you are considering is small enough that the particular tire you chose is going to have more affect than the change in tire size.
