Tires: Tire size vs. safety, tire placard, gmc sierra

Question
Barry,
Are there any safety issues to consider if I replace a set of LT 265/75 R16 Tires with LT235/85 R16 on a 2003 GMC 2500 4X4 crew cab? I realize that speedometer readings will be inaccurate and probably higher than actual speed.

Answer
Dan,

Perhaps.

I looked up a 2003 GMC Sierra K2500 and I don't see that it originally came witn LT265/75R16's - and there are quite a few version of this vehicle, and they came with different tire sizes and inflation pressure specifications.  So you need to find the tire placard on your vehicle and verify what it says.

If it says LT245/75R16, then that is the functional equivalent of an LT235/85R16.
