Tires: Rim and Tire size for car, rim diameter, honda civic ex

Question
I have a 1998 Honda Civic Ex, and one of my rims just cracked. Before even trying to look, how would i find out what size rim would fit my car? And after, how would i know what size tires to buy for them? My friends say that the reason my rim cracked is that i currently have "stretched tires" on my rims. Also is there a site that you could recommend where i can find accurate information on stock cars? If there is one.

Answer
Chai,

Tire Rack has a database you can access that will tell you the original tire size for your vehicle.

www.tirerack.com

But if you have "stretched tires", then you don't have the original tires and rims, and that size would be for reference.

The sidewall of the tire will tell you its size.  It will be in the form:   XXX/YYRZZ, where all the letters are numbers.  XXX=width in millimeters, YY is the aspect ratio - height to width, and ZZ is the rim diameter in inches.

Your rims should also be marked, but you may have to take one off to see the size.  It will be in the range of 6" to 10", and may have the letter J or JJ after it.

After you've found all that, post back and I can assist you further.
