Tires: sidewall damage, runflat tires, flat tires

Question
Barry,  I have Bridgestone runflat tires that are only about 1.5 years old.  I recently hit a pothole and now have a weak spot in the sidewall that is about the diameter of a golfball and protrudes about a quarter inch.  Do I need to replace the tire or can I run them till the weak spot fails.  Remember, they are run flat tires.  I don't want to do anything dangerous, but would like to avoid spending $$$$ if possible.  Thanks.  Scott

Answer
Scott,

In essence the tire is about to fail - and it would be best to avoid the sudden air loss, especially at high speeds.

Even though this tire is a runflat, the sidewall - and its stiffness - is the critical component.  The tire has done what it was designed to do - get you safely to a position where the tire can be replaced.
