Tires: REPLACEMENT TIRES, mileage warranty, chevrolet blazer

Question
I own a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer.  Primarily my wife drives it and so therefore it only has about 29,000 miles on it.  I had asked the question here a year or so back on if only time was a factor I should use to gage replacing the tires.  The tread is good but the answer (if I recall correctly) was to replace about 7 - 9 years in mid Atlantic.  So I'm getting ready to replace the tires (P235/70R15).  My question is based on the 40,000 mile tire and the 60,000 mile tire.  The 60K are more expensive, but I get a quality tire in the 40K mileage.  We do use the vehicle for trips of 500 miles on occasion but not very often.  I'm looking for a quality tire with a good wet traction rating.  I'm in the research mode now.  What should I be looking for and does a 40K mileage tire automatically mean lower quality?

Answer
David,

No, a 40K mileage warranty says nothing about the quality and says everything about the intent of the design.  It is easy to guarrantee 60K, and it's quite another to deliver - plus, some manufacturers purposely design tires with low mileage in order to get good wet traction qualities.

So you need to decide what is important to you - wear, traction, etc. and make your decision based on that.
