Tires: Dual tires, ford e450, class c motorhome

Question
I have a 2007 Class c motorhome, Ford E450 chassis. The OEM tires are LT225-75-16E and they are maxed out on load.
Is it possible to use LT245-75-16E tires on the rear dual axle. Or will they rub each other.

Answer
Monte,

The dual spacing for an LT225/75R16 is 10.2", while for an LT245/75R16, it is 11.34".

Here's how to measure the current dual spacing:

1)  Pick a spot on one of the duals.  Tread edge will work well for this.

2)  Find the equivalent spot on the other dual and measure the distance between them.  This is the dual spacing.

What you are trying to measure is the distance from centerline to centerline, but if you measure from left edge of the tread to the left edge of the other tread (or right edge to right edge), that is the same.  Measure it in a couple of spots to be sure of the reading.

If there isn't enough space, there is probably nothing you can do without changing the rim off set.

I don't recommend spacers. Aside from the lugs probably not being long enough, the lugs have also have to have enough clamping power to hold all those pieces together.
