Tires: tires, tiguan, dot standards

Question
hello,
i bought a tiguan but i have to change the tires (bridgestone dueller 215/65/R 16 ) due to suspension problems:comfort and ride is very important for me due to health problems...of course i can't deny the importance of wet braking and dry braking as well...please help me to choose...i would like also to know how the letter V or H affects tire confort...In my country the country where the tire is made is very important...For exemple a michelin made in france or germany is better then michelin made in X country...Is that right?Would u precise how pressure of tires affects the confort...Can low pressure endanger security of passengers? There is a pressure written in my car (29)...Is it the same for all brands of tires?Does it change if it is a V or H?Moreover there is another number 98 next to the H ..What does it mean?Should i consider this number when buying a new tire?Thank u.

Answer
First things first - I DO NOT make recommendations for any Michelin products.

As for where a tire is made:  No matter the country of origin the tire has to meet the DOT standards for where the tire is to be sold.

Speed ratings such as the V and H that you mentioned are used by manufacturers to indicate the performance and handling of a product. Yes, each speed rating has differing ride characteristics.  Generally speaking the farther down the alphabet you go the firmer the ride.

Tire Pressure does affect the ride of a tire, among many other issues.

Max PSI generally varies among manufacturers.  For your size tire  in a H speed rating and 98 load index 29 PSI is an extremely low pressure.  Most manufacturers call for a MAX PSI of 44lbs for your tire size.

Low tire pressures are the MAIN cause of tire failures, premature wear, irregular wear, poor handling, poor braking, etc...

YES...LOW AIR PRESSURES DO ENDANGER ANYONE IN THE VEHICLE !

The 98 on your tire is the load index for this tire and it should be matched when tires are replaced.
