Tires: different tires in front 2002 mitsubishi eclipse, ventus sport, mitsubishi eclipse

Question
I just realized the tires on the front of my 2002 eclipse are hankook ventus hrII 215/50r17 9H. The back are Hankook ventus sport K104 215/50z r17 91y. The recommended size is p215/50 r17 90v. I have already replaced the front tire in April. Now I need a new rear tire to pass inspection. Confused if not having the recommended tires is causing damage to car. Had alignment done in April when I bough the new front tire. It still pulls to the left. When balancing they did not use stick on weights so I took it back. Is stick on weights recommended. Need help thanks.

Answer
Robin,

What a messy situation!!

First, it doesn't matter what kind of weights are used - the tire doesn't care.  It's strictly a cost versus appearance issue.

There is no damage being done by having different speed ratings - except the handling balance is less than optimal.

But it would be best to get to the situation where you have all 4 tires exactly the same and with the same state of wear.

BTW, the pull might be tires or it might be alignment.

Swap the 2 front tires.  If the pull changes direction, it's the tires.  It it doesn't change it's the alignment.  If it disappears, it's both.
