Tires: All-Weather Tires, nokian tire, pontiac sunfire

Question
I'm wondering about effectiveness of Nokian's All-Weather tires. I have done some research and understand that these tires have treads that are more similar to Winter tires than any All Season tire in the past. I need to know though how effective they are in Winter conditions. I live in Canada and drive a Pontiac Sunfire. Where I live (in Calgary) it does get quite cold, snowy and icy. But the risk seems to be ice and cold more than anything else.
Will All Weather tires provide me with enough stopping ability? I like the idea of not having to change me tires every season, but don't want to give up safety for convenience.
Thanks!

Answer
Stephanie,

The Nokian tire brand is relatively new to the American market.  I have not received much feedback on the product.

For any tire to be sold in the US as an ALL WEATHER it has to meet DOT specifications.  I believe the same holds true for Canada.

If the tire is all-season rated then it should perform fine.  NO tire regardless of brand is going to perform on ice.
