Tires: Tire size, honest to goodness, rim diameter

Question
QUESTION: What is the equal tire from a 6:00 X 14" to a 15" in todays tire size   thanks Jerry

ANSWER: Jerry,

You should be aware that a 6.00-14 was a pretty small tire even for the time.  Going up in rim diameter generally means going out in width and lower in aspect ratio - and given the starting point, there isn't anything in a 15" that is that small - with a couple of exceptions that may or may not apply.

So I think I need to know the bigger picture.  What vehicle are we talking about - year, make, and model?

Why do you want to go from a 14" to a 15"?

QUESTION: 1974 Datsun PL620 pick up truck I have plenty of room to go out and up mainly wanted to be close to stock maybe a bit taller   Thanks Jerry

Answer
Jerry,

Thanks for the info.  I was afraid that the 6.00-14 might have been a honest to goodness truck tire with a high ply rating and increased load carrying capacity - but that is not the case.

So I'm back to the original statement that I made, which was that there aren't any 15" tires that are that small, so anything available in a 75 to 80 series tire will work, provided the rim width is adequate.
