Tires: alignment and..., gabe gabe, safary

Question
QUESTION: Hello

I have a 2004 Safary van with only 35,000 miles on it  and all 4 tires lost much of the thread on the outer part - close to the road.  about an inch wide and quite much - so they need to be replaced.

1 Is this because there overinflated or under inflated?

2 Do I need alignment ? only front or rear too?  I don't feel theat the van pulls towrs any directions.

3  I live in AZ - are there any tires that can sustain the heat better than others?  can you suggest any, please?

Thank you,    Gabe

Answer
Gabe,

Without seeing the tires it's hard to say exactly what the cause of the wear is.  But, from what you are describing it certainly wouldn't hurt to have an alignment check.  Many companies offer this service free.  A rotation of the tires should be performed every 3,500 - 5,000 miles depending on the type use the vehicle see's.  The more severe the service the shorter the interval between rotations.
