Tires: tire noise, wheel bearings, wheel bearing

Question
I have purchased a 2006 mustang, it has a noise that sounds like a wheel bearing is going. I have had this checked at a ford dealership, and the control arms were bad ( a common problem on mustangs). The tires did show a cupping effect on the front, they believe the noise was coming from the unusual wear of the tires. According to a tire dealer this is very possible, because the unusual wear will make noise and with a low profile tire it will radiate up into the vehicle sounding like a wheel bearing is going. What is your opinion?

Answer
John,

I agree.  Irregular wear patterns can sound like bad wheel bearings.

Irregular wear is caused by misalignment and aggravated by insufficient inflation pressure and insufficient rotation practices.

So the control arm could be the source of the misalignment, that caused the irregular wear, that caused the noise.

I think they nailed it!
