Tires: tire noise, cv axles, firestone tire

Question
QUESTION: I had 4 new Firestone tires put on my Mit. Endeavor and the road noise is terrible.  The faster you go the less you hear it.  Slow speeds is terrible. What causes this?  There was no noise before the new tires. Also, now there is a squeak in the front driver side wheel not there before the tires.

ANSWER: Lisa,

What type of Firestone tire was installed ?

As for the squeak I will not speculate you should ask a qualified mechanic.  However, a common occurrence when replacing front tires is to inadvertently bend the brake rotor splash guard.  This is in no way a catastrophic event simply bending the thin metal guard back in place will cure the problem.

QUESTION: Destination LE

Answer
Lisa,

I have sold this product on many occasions for use on trucks and SUV's and I have not encountered any problems with noise.  I should have asked before did the noise begin immediately after having the new tires installed ?

You may have a mechanical problem such as a wheel bearing that you couldn't hear with the older tires.  I've encountered this before due to the amount of wear and the condition of the old tires.  The noise becoming quieter when speeds are reached and more pronounced at slow speeds is indicative of a bad wheel bearing.  Another possibility are the CV axles.
