Tires: difference in tire size, ford taurus lx, ford taurus

Question
I need to replace my tires on my 03 Ford Taurus LX. When I research the correct size to get, I am getting two different answers. I am getting 215/ 60R 16 (which is on my car), but other websites have said that the size is 205/ 65R 15 (which are much cheaper). Can you tell me which is right and possibly the differene? Is the cheaper tires the way to go? Thank you for your time.

Answer
Holly,

If your car has P215/60R16's on it now, then you have 16" rims - and 15" tires will not fit.

But just to reassure you:

On every vehicle sold in the US, there is a sticker - commonly called the vehicle placard - that lists the original tire size and the proper pressure for that size.  The placard is usually located on a doorpost or in the glove box – but sometimes it is located in the trunk or on the fuel filler door.

I know the Taurus well (I have a 1998), and mine has P205/65R15's on it, but your doesn't!  Those other web sites are wrong!!
