Tires: 99 f350 super duty SRW 2wd, aluminum rims, stock aluminum

Question
Use a truck camper, and are pushing my luck with weight limits of 265/75r16s. Been reading on Forums that instead of going to 19.5" wheels and tires that some mfgs are now making 285/75r16s that can handle 3740 per tire which, at 7480 on rear axle keeps me under the tire's maximum limits albeit over Fords GVWR. Read on a previous question you answered back in o6 that my stock aluminum rims from factory are only 7" wide and that I would need to get 8" wide rims. Is this true that a new set of wheel's are required. Will this new tire size fit all around on all four corners, any major differance. What about my spare, should I change that one too? Also use air bags and Rancho 9000s Thanks Jay Jenkins Peoria, AZ.

Answer
Jay,

Yes, it is true.  But you should check to be sure as I am working off of information contained in a book - They have been wrong sometimes.

But I can not tell you if the larger tire will fit or not.  I need to know how big the fenderwells are on your vehicle.  The folks that measure that sort of thing think the information gives them a competitive advantage, so they don’t share.

I suggest you contact Discount Tire or Tire Rack.  They both do those sorts of measurements.
