Tires: mounting white lettered tires inside out., bf goodrich, longtrail

QUESTION: i was told i cant mount my BF goodrich 285 75r 16 long trail radials with the white letters not showing because they are not in out directional . is this correct and what damage would be done? thank you

ANSWER: Mark,

 Unless these tires have the words "Inside" or "Outside" molded on the sidewall then there is no problem with letters being in or out.  I've sold a lot of the BFG Longtrail T/A's and have not seen any yet that were a directional tire.

 This means that the tread design is such that the water channeling ability would be greatly diminished if mounted incorrectly.  The harmonics of the tire would be effected, the tire would generate noise.  The tire would wear prematurely.  These, Mark, are just a few detrimental affects.  Bottom line, the manufacture designed the tire to run in a certain direction.
