Tires: Tire Size Computability, tire placard, general exclaim uhp tires

Question
I'm looking to buy new tires for my car (2001 A4 1.8 T w/sport package). When I enter the model information onto tirerack.com it says my standard size is 205/55R16. I checked on my car and it has 205/60R15 currently installed. The owner's manual  also says 205/55R16.

I like the the General Exclaim UHP tires for my car, but they don't come in 205/60R15. I'd like to get them for my in the 205/55R16 size but I'm not sure if they will fit. In the 205/60R15 size I would get the BFGoodrich g-Force Sport, but I'm not if they as good a tire. My preference is still for the Exclaims.

Can you please advise?

Answer
Sam,

If the car was purchased used it is not uncommon for a dealer to opt for a less expensive tire when they have the need to replace them.  If the owner's manual and the tire placard both call for P205/55R16 then size wise you will not have any troubles using this size.  However, I do not see any mention of a speed rating.  You will need to assure that the replacement tires are the same speed rating as is required on the tire placard. The tire placard is located in the door jam of the driver's door.

The BFG is a super product for performance whereas, the General typically will give good performance along with better tire life.

hope this helps,
