Nissan Repair: Service Engine Soon - EGR & Knock Sensor, nissan maxima, sterring wheel

Question
Hi Von,

I recently got a Service Engine Sign and went to my local mechanic.  He attached an electronic gadget below the sterring wheel and got 2 diagnostic codes - (1) Code 325 which he said was for some kind of Knock Sensor Bank 1 and the other for EGR Flow Malfunction.  What should each of them cost and approximately how much labor is involved (hours)?  This is for my 1998 Nissan Maxima.  I am trying to find out if he is being on the high side because the cost quoted is $230 and $270 each respectively.  I have 152,000 miles on the car.

Thanks.

Answer
Gaurav,

The costs quoted is for both parts and labor and are not out of reason at all.  They are both a pain in the butt to get to so I would think these are well within reason.  With the miles you have you have really done good to have them last this long.  The EGR and knock sensor are about two hours each on labor.  I am estimating since I do not know your model or year.
