Tires: tires/wheels, 18 inch wheels, 20 inch wheels

Question
QUESTION: I have a 04 Lincoln LS with 20 inch wheels and 225/35-20 Nito Nt420 tires.  Ever since I bought these wheels & tires I have had a wheel balancing issue when I hit 60mph the steering wheel shakes real bad - what could be the problem?

ANSWER: Marlene,

Have you had the tires and wheels rebalanced?  Did the wheels come with hub rings?  Did the tire installers use a Hunter GSP9700 to balance the tires?

First step would be to go back to where you bought the tires and wheels and discuss the poor performance of the product you purchased from them.

QUESTION: Yes I have had the tires and wheels balanced at different tire shops and at the place where I purchased them and the problem is still there. Yes I do recall the wheels coming with hub rings.  Not sure what product they used to do the balancing but they worked on it numerous times.  I have taken it to both NTB and Discount tire. I purchased these wheels Dec 2007. I have gone back to the store where I purchased the wheels and they are now recommending changing my wheels and tires to 18 inch wheels and going with a tire size of 245 (not sure what the rest is) but according to them that is what my car is recommending...

Answer
Marlene,

If the tire shop that sold you the tires will not stand behind the product they sold you, I suggest you up the ante - threaten a law suit if they don't fix it.  That may mean a financial loss on their part, but they should never deliver a product that is unsatisfactory.
