Tires: Tire Installation, brake caliper, ford mustang

Question
Hi- I have a 98 Ford mustang that I just put new tires and wheels on ($1400 worth). This is my problem - my car started making a loud clunking noise from the rear immediately afterwards that it never did before. After taking it back to the place I bought the tires and wheels from I was told that my brake caliper is misalligned and is now rubbing on rotar- then was asked if I just had brakes done which I hadn't. So I want to know if it is possible for the caliper to have been moved by the tire and wheel installation at all ??? Thank You- Amy Whyatt

Answer
Amy,

This seems fairly unlikely, but possible.  The brake caliper bracket is fairly strong and difficult to bend - but not impossible.

Here's what I would do.  Go somewhere else and confirm the problem and get an estimate for the repair.  Return to to the tire shop and make them an offer:  Either you pay for this or we go to court - then settle for half the cost.
