Tires: Tire air pressure and rotation, proper tire pressure, alignment specialist

Question
Barry, I recently bought some Firestone Destination M/T with UNI-T and I love them. The guy at Firestone recommended rotating them at 4,000 miles in order to ensure the proper wear of the tires. My question: Which method of tire rotation do I use? I have a 98 Tacoma 4x4, and my off-road travel is limited. These tires have excellent traction, along with being very expensive so I want them to last. Also  what is the proper tire pressure for them? The paperwork the Firestone guy gave me did not match the tire pressure when I manually checked them.

Answer
Phil,

On every vehicle sold in the US, there is a sticker - commonly called the placard - that will list the tire size and the proper pressure for that size.  If the tires that you bought are the same size, then the placard pressure is appropriate for street usage.

Rotation pattern?  First look at your owners manual and see what the vehicle manufacturer recommends.  IMHO, the pattern doesn't really matter, but I prefer a modified X like this one:

But there is one thing you need to be aware of:  These tires are going to be somewhat sensitive to misalignment, so find a good alignment specialist.  A misalignment will cause irregular wear in these types of tires and cause them to be noisy long before they are worn out.
