Pontiac: sunfire transmission, pontiac sunfire, 2001 pontiac sunfire

2001, Pontiac Sunfire, 4cyl. 125,000 miles.

My problem is that my automatic transmission is slipping badly, it feels like a standard shift car when the clutch is about to go.(revving up but not picking up speed). Knowing what you know, Could this be a semi-minor problem such as a trans screen or is it a major overhaul. The problem basically started in the morning and had gotten substantially worse by days end.

It could be as simple as a fluid leak causing a low fluid level in the trans. Check the fluid level first and if its low, fill it up and see if it stops slipping. If it does still slip or if the level is not low, the trans will more than likely have to come apart.
