Tires: cracks in the tread, cold climate, decisive factor

Question
The tires are Hankook DynaPro MT, 35X12.50 R15LT's, they have small cracks running all through the tread, none on the side walls, I had heard something about the tread coming apart and that there might be a recall on them, do you know anything about this problem?

Answer
Dan,

Cracking is a natural result of tires aging and the amount of stress a tire experiences.  So in and of itself, cracking is to be expected.  However, the degree of cracking might be a decisive factor to replace them.

But you should be aware that recent announcements have indicated that tires may become unsuitable for further service strictly due to age - regardless of the amount of tread left or the miles left in the tread.  The consensus seems to be that if you live in a hot climate (CA, AZ, NM, NV, TX, or FL) the limit is 6 years, and if you live in a cold climate (MT, MN, WI, ND, etc) the limit is 10 years.  States in between are .... ah ..... in between.

I looked at the Hankook web site and I don't see any announcements of a recall - and they are required by law to post one if there is one.  I doubt there is one, but you could call them and ask if you are unsure.
