Tires: Fix a Flat use, 80m, sealant

Question
I purchased 4 brand new Michelin 80M tires at my local membership warehouse (Sep 2007) and had two flats with them (Dec 2007 and March 2008)- used Fix a Flat both times.  This most recent flat, they dismounted the tire, saw the fix a flat I had already told them I used and then proclaimed that because I used Fix a Flat, the tire could not be repaired.

How is repairability determined when Fix a Flat is used?  I am not too happy that I was FORCED to purchase a 5th tire for my 4 legged vehicle.

Answer
Mark,

The stuff that seals in the inject-in sealants is very messy to deal with - especially when a repair is attempted.  That may be the reason.

But it may also be that there were other reasons not to repair the tire that are a little more difficult to explain:

1)  The tire showed signs of extended operation in an underinflated condition.

2)  The area punctured is outside the repairable area

3)  The puncture was such that the damage was too much to safely continue operation.

I think the lesson here is to use a sealant ONLY when it is absolutely necessary.
