Tires: Tires, factory tires, pressure tires

Question
I use me 2005 Jeep Liberty to tow a trailer.  I am considering switching my factory tires P225/75R16 to LT225/75R16 to get a stronger side wall.  Is this a good idea?  If I switch what pressure should I keep the LT tire at?  The Jeep has a tire pressure monitor system will this be thrown off by higher pressure tires?  Thanks for any help you can provide.

Answer
Tom,

I don't recommend people switch from "P"s to "LT"'s - and vice versa.

Here's the primary reason - you will need to add 15 psi to what the value is on the placard to get the same load carrying capacity.

I don't know for sure but I don't think the additional pressure is a problem for the sensor - and I'm pretty sure the TPMS will not cause a light to go on because it is so high - but you will lose the reason the TPMS was put on to begin with.
