Tires: How to get wheel rim off, wheel rim, lug nuts

I have a Mazda 2003 Protege. Flat tire, trying to change but I cannot get the wheel rim off (The nuts are off) Manual says to pry off, but after an hour of trying every angle and position,  the cover isn't moving. I can't see where the cover ends and the rim starts. What am I doing wrong. It can't be this difficult.

Assuming you have the lug nuts off - and not the nuts that hold the wheel cover onto the wheel - then put the lug nuts back on but only hand tight.  Then back them off 1/2 turn, and slowly drive back and forth in the driveway until the wheel comes loose.
