Tires: what does 80W stand for, saturn ion coupe, saturn ion

Question
Hello i know that the 80w stands for speed and weight rating. but i cant find the specs on exactly what speed or weight. I drive a 2005 saturn ION Coupe and have purchased these 205/40ZR17-80W and was wondering if they will work with my car?
Thanks
Dave

Answer
David,

Tire Rack did a good job of explaining this:

The second part of this is that your car originally came with 87W tires and that means that the tires you purchased do not have enough load carrying capacity - which means an increased liklihood of a load related tire failure.

But just to be sure, please check your vehicle placard for the original tire size and the proper pressure for that size.  The placard is usually located on a doorpost or in the glove box.
