Tires: tire pressure, 2007 toyota yaris, toyota yaris hatchback

Question
I have a 2007 Toyota Yaris Hatchback withe 215/35/18 tires on it. What should my tire pressure be?

Answer
Robert,

On every vehicle sold in the US, there is a sticker - commonly called the vehicle placard - that will list the original tire size and the proper pressure for that size.

Vehicle placards are usually located on a doorpost or in the glove box.

But you don't have the original tire size - and that would change the pressure.

According to Tire Guides, a 2007 Toyota Yaris came with either P175/65R14 84S inflated to 32 psi front and rear, or P185/60R15 84T inflated to 32 psi front and rear.

215/35R18's come in 2 flavors - Standard Load with an 80 Load Index - or - Extra Load with an 84 Load Index.  Hopefully you got Extra Load's, because the 80 Load Index isn't quite enough to carry the load.

So if you have Extra Load's with an 84 Load Index, I'd recommend you use 37 psi, which would maintain the equivalent load carrying capacity, however, since you have a very low aspect ratio, you might want to consider using 41 psi to reduce the probability of impact damage to the rims (not to mention the tires)
