Tires: Blow out & replacement, manuever, rare situation

Question
We recently had a blow out and could only replace the one tire. It matches (same make and brand, etc.) the other, but is new where it's mate is 2 years old. Is this dangerous until the second tire arrives, early next month?

Answer
Phillis,

This is a matter of degree, rather than kind.  It is more dangerous than having 4 of the same, but less dangerous than having tires that are completely different.

And the real danger is when you have to slam on the brakes or do an emergency manuever - which is a relatively rare situation - and even then there are only some situations where the vehicle goes out of control.

Overall the risk is low, but it would be better not to explore the boundaries of this risk.
