Tires: motor home tires, fleetwood pace arrow, dual wheels

Question
I have a 1997 Fleetwood Pace Arrow motorhome 17,000 GVW rating, dual wheels, the tires are 235/85R 16 LT. LRE -Michelin XPS RIB radial X , dot HJEM-A2JX -1203   3042lbs@ 80 psi. The tread is very good, the side walls are not cracked, however they are soon to be 5 years old if I'm reading the date code correctly. I want to know if these tires should be replaced due to the age of the tire? And I feel that the capacity of the tire is almost maximized, what tire would be the best replacement. I'd appreciate your opinion, and any additional suggestions or comments you may  have.
thank you, Dave West

Answer
Dave,

You are right - the tires are almost 5 years old.

I think you will be OK for the 6 years that some folks recommend.  This would be more true if you did not live in AZ, CA, NM, NV, TX, or FL, but lived in MI, WI, MN, ND, or MT.

Unfortunately, the situation is probably that the tire size is maximized - no additional room - so you are stuck with that size.
