Tires: tire size options, ford f 350, stock rims

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1999 Ford F-350 Super Duty Extended Cab 4x4.  My question is whether I can mount 295/75/16 size tires on the stock rims.

Thank you.

ANSWER: Rod,

No, the stock rims are 7" wide and a P295/75R16 requires a minimum of a 7 1/2" rim.  So if you use the P295 on the 7" rim you will get a lot of center wear and it is likely that the vehicle will feel unstable - tending to "hunt" as you drive it.

QUESTION: Thank you for your reply.  Can you tell whether there is larger size that will fit with the 7" rims.  I'm mostly interested in a taller rather than wider tire.

Thank you again.

Answer
Rod,

First allow me to apologize for the mistake I made.  I quoted using P metric tires and an F-350 should have LT metrics on it.  That doesn't change my answer, but I wanted to make the technical part of my answer as accurate as possible.

But to answer your second question - no, LT265/75R16's are the largest tire size that will fit on a 7" rim.
