Tires: 2001 Chev Suburban 2500, alignment specs, chev

Question
I have 2001 Chev Suburban, 2500 4wd, now 100K miles.  New tires at 50k.  New front shocks.  Right front tire has excessive outer edge tread wear, and will need replaced, but I dont want to invest in new tires until this front-end problem is corrected. Other 3 tires are evenly worn and have substantial tread left.

I am meticulous about tire pressure and alignment.  Several months ago, I noted uneven wear on this tire, so I took to local dealer for diagnosis.  I got alignment, and they noted no worn front-end suspension parts.

Any thoughts ?

Answer
Jim,

As you have probably discovered, some alignment guys are....ah....what's the politically correct term....oh, yes...work challenged.  Alignment specs are pretty wide and if the alignment is in the outer half of the tolerance, you might have problems, and it takes a bit of effort to do this work.

But just so we are on the same page.  Fixing the alignment isn't going to undo the wear on the tire - or make a tire that is worn uneven turn into an evenly wearing tire.  Once the rubber is gone, the rubber is gone.

So put an evenly worn tire on the RF position and see if the wear problem has been fixed.
