Tires: Tire wear in wet conditions, wet conditions, tire wear

Question
Do tires tend to wear faster in wet conditions?  I understand they run cooler but wouldn't the water tend to flush out the "old" rubber quicker?  Much like the oil does when used on drill bit to aid cutting.

Answer
Spencer,

No, just the opposite.  Water tends to lubricate the tire against the road surface allowing the tire to slip rather than grind away.

Using your oil analogy, it wound be like the oil in bearings - no oil causing the bearing to wear faster.
