Tires: tire size and cupping, gmc suburban, inflation pressure

Question
I recently purchased a 95 GMC Suburban and there is a lot of tire noise coming from the left front tire.  My husband thinks it's cupped because in the middle of the tread there is high spots and low spots.  It does need an alignment.  However the inner and outer of the tire is not really warn.  Any help here would be great.  Also, I am interested in replacing the tires and wanted to know the biggest tire I could put on the stock Suburban 1500 SLT 4x4.  Thanks!

Answer
Krystal,

Cupping - more properly called irregular wear - is caused by misalignment and aggravated by insufficient inflation pressure and insufficient rotation practices.

But, I am sorry, in order to answer your question about tire size, I need to know how big the fenderwells are on your vehicle.  The folks that measure that sort of thing think the information gives them a competitive advantage, so they don’t share.

I suggest you contact Discount Tire or Tire Rack.  They both do those sorts of measurements.
