Tires: tallest tire I can fit on my truck?, chevy k1500, tire place

Question
QUESTION: I have a stock 94 chevy k1500 4x4 p/u. I know what the optional tire size is (245/75r16) but I need to know what the tallest tire I can fit without rubbing. as I need to gain some clearance for plowing.
I know a 31/10.5 will fit but can I go larger? if so what size and also what would the equivalent be to the largest? (ie 275/75 285/75 etc) any help you can give me would be appreciated as I am looking to buy the tires soon.
Thanks Ken Netto

ANSWER: Ken,
I will be honest with you.  Books can say things but still not be correct nor work in a case like yours.
When it comes to something like you ask, it is always best to go down to a local tire shop or two ( best to get a 2nd or 3rd option ) and to ask them this question.
You want to make sure;
1- What is the biggest tire you can put on
and
2- Have them check and look to see if you will have clearance.
3- Will you need a new rim or not.
So for safety it is best to have someone look at it.
Sorry I can not help anymore then this.

QUESTION: Do you have a rough idea? you said that you worked at a tire place. Most shops around here wont help unless you are buying the tires there and half of them insist that you cant go larger than optional..LMAO sooo?

Answer
Ken,
I checked my book and if it is a regular cab the highest you can go is, 245/75R16 50F/50R psi.
If it is a extended cab you can only use 245/75R16 50F/50R psi.
That is sad to hear about your local dealers, I always offered advise, then again I was the Supervisor.

If you fill you need a larger tire, you will need a lift kit.
Sorry,
John
