Tires: tire rating, dodge diesel, trailer dealership

Question
I'm towing a 9500 # gooseneck horse trailer using 245-75R16 Firestone Destination M-T's. They are "E" rated at 3042# @ 80PSI.Approximately 25% of the weight is on the ball. They have 3 ply sidewalls. Are these tires adequate? An employee at the trailer dealership said I need heavier wall 10 ply tires. I tow with a 2500 Dodge Diesel. What's your opinion

Answer
Ken,

First you need to contact Dodge and see what the towing capacity of the vehicle is.  If you are within that - and the tires are the original tire size - than you will be OK.

BTW, Load Range E tires used to be called "10 ply", which is why they changed the way these are designated.  So I would not listen to that person again.  He obviously does understand tires.
