Tires: Tire Size, tire failure, pontiac grand am

Question
I own a 2001 p Grand Am Se, Tire size on them are 205/65/r15 but my wife (no really) bought these tires p195 65 r15 (mich) at a discount and I was "i dont think it would be a good idea" so before we lose our investment what coud happen should we install?

Answer
Steve,

The original tire size is listed on a placard that is located usually on a doorpost or in the glove box.  The proper pressure for that size is there as well.

My book says a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am came with P215/60R16's, so the 195's are too small in load carrying capacity, where the 205's aren't.

Installing the smaller tires is going to increase the probability of a tire failure, so I'd recommend against it.
