Tires: Different tires, tire place, brand 1

I need 1 new tire on 04 Jag Xtype & tire place says need to buy all four new ones, Can you run 3 tires of Continental brand & 1 of different brand ?

Correct me if I am wrong, but an X type is an AWD, and if true, you could ruin the drivetrain with an odd tire.

Even if not true, an odd tire causes the vehicle to pivot around that odd tire during emergency manuevers, so it is not a good idea.  I would hate it if you learned this lesson by stuffing your car into a ditch.
