Tires: WHITE WALL TIRES, white wall tires, auto tires

Question
I HEARD WHERE ALL AUTO TIRES ARE MADE WITH WHITE AND THEN COVERED WITH BLACK RUBBER. I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS. WHY WOULD THEY MAKE A WHITE WALL AND THEN COVER IT. PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW WHITEWALLS ARE MADE.

                              THANK YOU, JOHN

Answer
John,

You heard exactly right.  WSW tires have their sidewalls in white rubber and then it is covered in black, and then buffed through the black to reveal the white.

The reason for this is that it is difficult to get the white rubber 100% evenly around the tire.  Besides, it allows for lettering and other interesting designs.
