Tires: can sealants in mower tires cause failures?, inner cords, inflation pressure

Question
I have a tire that is about 6 years old and had Slime or other non pressurized sealer installed to prevent leaks. The tire became very out of round and bulged. The inner cords seemed to pull and separate from the main tire. Can these sealants cause this in the Fla. heat? I have never seen this in other tires. This is in slow speed NHS tires. Thanks

Answer
Charles,

This failure sounds more like a durability type failure.  To my knowledge, these sealants don't affect the tire, but I am not an advocate of these sealants for prevention, as I think 2 things happen:

1)  Folks think that using sealants means they don't have to check inflation pressure regularly.

2)  Folks think that punctures will automatically seal themselves 100% of the time.

Both of these are false, and can lead to situations where the tire is chronically underinflated - which results in a durability failure.
