Tires: Tire sIping, bf goodrich precept, snow traction

Question
I need some unbiased advice.  I just bought 4 BF Goodrich Precept touring tires (I've had them before & like them).  What do you you of tire siping?  Is it worth it?

John

Answer
John,

I think siping helps wet traction and snow traction, but hurts wear, dry traction, rolling resistance (but not much) and durability.

I don't think you need to do it unless you have wet traction or snow traction problems. - which to me means in the last 50% of the tread life - and then it becomes a matter of economics of postponing the purchase of new tires.
