Tires: 2000 XTERRA TIRE FITMENT, bridgestone dueler, tire fitment

Question
HI,

how do you read the numbers on a truck tire vs a car tire.  I know what a 265/70/15 tire is, but how do you read a truck tire.  An example is 31 x 10.50 R 15.  Is it the same as a car tire?  What does the 31 mean?  What does the 10.5 mean?  Currently I'm using a Bridgestone Dueler Revo tire size 265/70/15.

Answer
Eric,

The 31 is the overall diameter in inches; the 10.5 is the section width in inches.

But be careful, don't think that just because the tire is physically the same size (or larger) that it has the same load carrying capacity (or more).  Load carrying capacity is much more complex than that.
