Tires: using nitrogen in tires, nitrogen in tires, work trucks

Question
I have never heard of this, but a friend with a fleet of work
trucks said filling tires with nitrogen makes tires last longer.
What do you think of this and what is the theory behind it?

Nitrogen slows down the natural leakage that you get, and also slows down the natural aging that takes place.  However, most of the other claims about nitrogen are exaggerated, because they are based on the decreased leakage rate and if you check your tire’s pressure regularly (They say once a month), you get the same benefits without the cost.
