Tires: tread depth, uniroyal laredo tires, uniroyal tires

Question
Hello Barry, being the only volunteer on this subject must keep
you busy. We allexpert users "appreciate" you experts !

I have original equipment Uniroyal tires on my 05 Blazer.
49 thousand miles. Just had a full tire/lube job done and they
said i had approximately 7/32nd of tread depth left. Needless to
say they were very surprised.
My question:
How many miles do you feel i might still get out of these tires
with that amount of tread depth left.
Almost all of my driving is on the highway. I do very little city
driving.
You do not need to answer this last question if you dont wish
too as i know you dont like to give reccomendations on tires
"but" i am thinking of replacing these with Uniroyal {Laredo} tires
from Walmart.

Thanks ! For taking time to answer !
Ron

Answer
Ron,

Based on the tread depth (hopefully, this is measured at the lowest spot, otherwise the calaculation will be wrong), you will reach 4/32nds at about 73,000 miles.  While this is not the legal minimum, many people(including myself) feel that because the hydroplaning resistance drops so fast after that point, this is when tires should be removed for safety reasons.
